Bye Bye Blemish

Image
Bye Bye Blemish is an acne drying lotion containing sulfur and salicylic acid. It is very similar to the Serious Skin Care Dry-Lo and the Mario Badescu drying lotion at less than half the price. I found mine at Fred Meyer for $8.99. You can purchase it at Ulta or many online retailers for under ten dollars.

It is very important not to shake the bottle and mix the ingredients. This will cause the product to dry up very quickly. Instead, stick a q-tip into the bottle as far down as you can and pull it out and apply to the areas needed. Be careful not to get too close to your eyes because the fumes will sting the eyes. I apply this before I go to bed on my blemish areas. I often cover whole areas of my face that are broken out. In the mornings wash it off with your daily face wash.

The Bye Bye blemish works just as effectively as the higher priced products, but won't break the bank. It also helps that you can find it locally without having to order online.

Toodles!

Zinc C Thera-Serum

Image
Malibu Wellness Zinc C Thera-serum
A year ago I attended a hair show in Nashville and was fortunate enough to get to talk to the spokesperson for Malibu Wellness. At the time I had heard of the products, but had never tried them. I left with some brochures and a huge curiosity. Recently, I came across the products again and after researching for a couple of weeks, decided to give them a try. I purchased several hair products and this face serum.
According to the product description and website:
What It Is:

The original naturally-derived, fresh-dried, preservative-free L-ascorbic acid form of vitamin C combined with the correct percentage of zinc proven in clinical studies to gently, yet effectively kill bacteria on skin.

What It Does:

The freshly activated L-ascorbic form of Vitamin C (the only form of vitamin C clinically proven to scavenge free radicals known to cause inflammation) helps prevent the degradation of skin’s collagen, normalize the natural exfoliation rate of skin and imp…

Sebastian Potion 9.

Image
Sebastian's Potion 9 has become my go to hair product. It is described as a wearable styling treatment. It is infused with 9 Botanical extracts including jojoba oil, safflower oil, olive fruit oil, evening primrose oil, sesame oil, rice bran oil, willow bark extract, cammelia leaf extract, obrignya oleifera seed oil and wheat and soy proteins. It has a light hold and is very moisturizing to your strands. The consistency is gel-like and has a nice fresh scent that is light and quickly fades away. You can use this on damp hair before blow drying to give a light hold or on dry hair as I do to tame fly aways and smooth the ends. I use this on my ends every time I shampoo, before I apply any heat. I also use it to smooth and perfect after my hair is styled. I actually lost the first bottle I bought and went into a panic until I made it out to buy more. I now offer this along with my other favorite products in my small google store in the sidebar.
This product is suitable for all hair ty…

Revlon Doubletwist mascara

Image
Left- Lancome Hypnose Drama, Right- Revlon Doubletwist
My new favorite mascara is this Revlon Doubletwist. At first it was very awkward. The brush is part comb and part brush. It takes some playing to get the lashes coated. But once you get it on, it really thickens the lashes well and also does a good job at lengthening. It reminded me a lot of my Hypnose Drama mascara. The color is very black like the Hypnose, but unlike the Hypnose it dries to a very matte finish. The Hypnose has a slightly glossy finish. The Doubletwist almost appears to have a hint of a blue-black tint. I like that though, because it makes the white of your eyes look brighter. The Hypnose Drama is my favorite department store mascara because the look is so dramatic. This is a very comparable mascara at one third of the price. I got mine at Fred Meyer for $8.99 buy one get one free. You can buy it online here. The Hypnose Drama is available here

Bare Escentuals Buzzworthy Collection

Image
I purchased this collection at Nordstrom after reading about it on the BEAddicts page. I would have went to a counter if there was a local one in Alaska. I was quite pleased with the products. I am already a huge Bare Escentuals fan. This kit includes : Well Rested spf20, High Shine Charisma, Popular, Glee Radiance, and a double ended lip wand with Sticky Buns lipstick and Muffin Top gloss. The cost was $36, which is the cost of the three eye colors alone if bought separately.
The pictures left to right show lipstick alone, gloss alone, and gloss over lipstick. The lipstick is described as a cinnamon rose and is exactly that. It has a slight sheen to it, but no shimmer, and is quite moisturizing. The gloss is one of their natural glosses and is a baby pink color with slight iridescence. It smells like a cupcake. I have been wearing this duo for a week now and can say it has become one of my favorites. not only does it feel great on the lips, but the color is the perfect nude, my lip col…

Alaska Beauty

So, I came to Alaska for 15 days to take care of some personal business and thought I'd spend some time shopping around for some local products. The one thing I found that I'm really excited to try is the Alaskan glacial mud products. There are two products- the purifying mineral mud masque and the exfoliating mineral soap bar. I found these in several local shops ranging from three dollars to thirty-six dollars. They are made from pure mud found in the Copper River when I get home and do a full review.

I had a hard time finding other products that were made local. I did end up getting a Bare Escentuals Buzzworthy kit at the local Nordstrom. Yes, there's a Nordstrom in Alaska but not within a hundred miles of where I live in Indiana. This is one of my favorite purchases this year... and I will do a full review once I get home. The cosmetic counters at Nordstrom were on the ground floor and were shoved as close together as possible into one corner of the floor. I could not …

What is beauty?

I have been watching Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty on VH1 and it got me wondering what my idea of beauty is. Growing up in a small town in central Kentucky, my mother was the most beautiful person I knew. She didn't wear much make-up; with four kids she couldn't afford it. Yet, she still had the smoothest skin, a beautiful smile and silky hair. She was a beauty. She would come to my class to pick me up from school and the little boys would whisper how pretty she was. Would she still be considered so beautiful in today's world?
The television and magazines constantly tell us we need to be thin, have white teeth, and buy expensive beauty products to be beautiful. We have truly lost the natural beauty in our lives. I admit I love my make-up and consider myself to be far from a natural beauty. I love the look of eyeliner and lipstick. But, that is not true beauty. What is really beautiful is my daughter when she wakes up in the morning, or my son when he sees a din…
