Let me start by congratulating Estee Lauder on putting out a collection that is WAY better than last year's collection. I have not picked up anything from the kit I bought last year except the mirror. The eye colors had no pay-off and were too light.

This year, the kit contains the new Pure Color shadow colors that were released earlier this year and there are COLORFUL shades! This kit is more versatile.

The liners are the same as last year. Two lipstick repeats from last year- Tiger Eye, Rose Tea. The eye make-up remover is the same. The brushes are the same (and pretty much crap unless you have no good quality brushes to compare them to). Two blush repeats- Rosewood and Nude Rose. Bronzer is the same. The glosses are new. See last year's kit here.

What I like:

The best part about this kit is the shadow palette. It can take you from day to night and is great quality. This palette alone is worth the cost of the kit. The glosses are my next favorite part of the kit. The blushes are very wearable and will suit nearly every skin tone. I love that we get a stand-up mirror in the kit. It has come in handy.

What I would change:

Take out those artist pencils and give us some Double Wear liners or a full size mascara. The artist pencils are crap! You have more than four lipstick shades in your arsenal, please quit repeating the same shades in every collection you release. I'm just glad Candy didn't make it into this kit, as I already have plenty of them. Instead of the Long Lasting lipsticks, I'd like to see the Crystal lipsticks or the Gloss lipsticks. Even one of the Double Wear lipsticks would be a nice change (I highly recommend Stay Scarlet for the holidays). Leave out the brushes all together. They are poor quality. Crown brush sells very good brushes for cheap that would benefit your line hugely if you carried some. Even the current permanent brushes are crap. Some new blush shades would be nice as well.

Overview:

If you have last year's kit, this kit is basically the same minus the shadows. The shadows are worth the price of the kit, though, so you could keep those and give out the rest as gifts.

If you did not get last years kit, this kit is a great value and has a nice selection for the entire face. Add a foundation and mascara and you are set.

I know EL uses this set to push fragrance sales, which is where they make their money, but please come out with some fragrances that appeal to younger people.

My top fragrance choices:

Sensuous, Pleasures delight, Intuition for her, Intuition for him

Beautiful is Estee Lauder's #1 selling fragrance advertised as the #1 selling in the US. But Victoria Secret also claims this for Heavenly. I personally don't like Beautiful or Pleasures (the #2 selling fragrance). Sensuous is a sexy, warm, woodsy scent. I love it for fall and winter and highly recommend it if you are unsure of which one to choose.
